Company History


H.W. "Harry" Knust purchased the dealership in August of 1980 and renamed the business Harry K Chevrolet-Oldsmobile. Later that year Knust added the Pontiac franchise and in 1982 the Buick franchise was added.

In December of 1989, Doug bought fifty percent of the GM store in Chamberlain. He was named President of the company in January of 1989.

In February of 1989, the new addition to the service department was completed and the Lightening Lube was service was put into place. The current Harry K facility and adjacent grounds were purchased from Harry by Doug in November of 1989.

In October of 1994, Harry and Doug purchased a piece of ground adjacent to Al's Oasis in Oacoma to build a new dealership on. In June 1995, ground was broken for the new store. In June of 1996, the new store was completed.

Many changes have come and gone in the thirteen years since Harry K’s move into the new store. The one constant, though, has been the customers to whom the Knust family is so grateful. Since August 1980, Harry K Chevrolet has sold over 25,000 new and used cars and trucks to customers across South Dakota, in all fifty states and in two other countries.
